Forbidden LEGO book
So anyway, I was taking a look at what Wal-Mart had as far as their
online LEGO selection. There's a lot of the regular stuff that
you'd expect. Wal-Mart does have several items that you can only
get from them online that surprised me. For instance they have
the Sandcrawler. I thought that the Sandcrawler was only
available through S@H and LEGO brand stores (and maybe TRU too; I don't
remember for sure). They also have the Batman sets. My
local Wal-Mart clearanced out the Batman sets shortly after they hit
the shelves, so I assume that that's something they did company
wide. You'd've thunk that the Batman sets would be something that
they'd want on the shelves for Christmas. They even had the new
huge $75 Boeing 787 Dreamliner plane set.
OK, back to the title
of this post. I saw a listing for the Ultimate LEGO Book (a DK
title from 1999 which I thought was out of print). Then I see
this listing for a new book titled Forbidden Lego from No Starch Press (a publisher that does a lot of fan-written LEGO books). Here's what the book's description says:
Written by a former master LEGO designer, this full color book contains
projects that break the LEGO Company's rules for building with LEGO
bricks-rules against building projects that fire projectiles; cutting
or gluing bricks; and using non-standard parts. Many of these are
backroom projects that LEGO's master designers build under the LEGO
radar, just to have fun. Learn how to build a catapult that shoots
M&Ms; a gun that fires LEGO beams; a continuous fire ping-pong ball
launcher; and more! Tips and tricks will give you ideas for inventing
your own creative model designs.
It
says that the authors are Ulrik Pilegaard and Mike Dooley, it will cost
$15.65 (whereas the MSRP is $24.95), and the book is scheduled to be
released on Feb. 28, 2007. It will be a 256 page paperback.
Here's a link to the item on walmart.com.
I
hadn't heard anything about this book until just now. I won't be
cutting or gluing any bricks, but I'm definitely interested in a book
that's written by a former LEGO designer.
